As a mom of three energetic girls, I’ve spent a lot of time navigating the world of baby-led weaning, feeding, and the inevitable cooking chaos (my kids are 4, 3, and 1—so yes, plenty of cooking drama!). I created this page to share my experiences, insights, and some practical recipes and tips for other parents on this journey.
When I started baby-led weaning with my first daughter, Big H, in 2020, I had the time (thanks to COVID lockdown) to really dive into prepping food, experimenting with recipes, and watching my daughter enjoy exploring new foods. Of course, the aftermath was often a mess—food everywhere, especially in her hair! At first, it was overwhelming, but seeing her develop her feeding skills and gain confidence in trying new foods made it all worth it. Baby-led weaning turned out to be incredibly beneficial for her motor and oral skills, as well as her independence.
After 18 months, I had my second daughter, Little H. With a toddler to care for, I didn't have the time to make everything from scratch, so I let go of things like homemade yoghurts and snacks. But Little H quickly became independent, watching her older sister at mealtimes. Thankfully, Big H was already a pro at feeding herself, so the mess was contained to one child!
Then, 14 months later, Baby N arrived, and life became a whirlwind. With three under three, cooking and cleaning up after meals felt impossible. So when it was time to start weaning Baby N, I resorted to store-bought purees. However, I noticed a difference—because she only had purees, she struggled to develop her chewing skills like her older sisters did. This led me to realize that baby-led weaning was key for building strong oral motor skills early on.
And that's how the idea of "Wild Weaning" came about - creating quick, wholesome meals for children and babies, along with more adventurous recipes from around the world, all with the aim of helping kids build a fun and positive relationship with food while exploring new flavours.
